Sunday Funday

After the gym, church and lunch at Jason's deli, J & I headed out to Mom's to pick her up for an early afternoon movie.

I was nominated chauffeur for the day.

Red Dawn was really good even if totally unbelievable. Nothing like a good grandmother, mother, son outing!!
My night ended with the beginning of Christmas decorating. I was able to get everything up that I already had but need a lot more now that we have the bigger house. Hopefully we will have time to get a tree and more decos by the end of this week.

Thanksgiving

Hosting our very first thanksgiving was a huge success :)))) The day started with J, K and I meeting mom and Roy for church at CTK. We made it back home around 11:30 and got busy frying the turkeys, setting out appetizers and getting all the fixings ready as the family and guests started arriving. Dale, Betty, Mom, Roy, Sissy, John, Tay, Bennie, Kris, Brian, Cayson & Carter showed up to the party and we had so much fun. It wasn't nearly as stressful as I thought it would be and I'm sure the wine had nothing to do with that. Roy brought his little car over and we had a blast driving it around the hood.

I enjoyed everything so much about the day that I can't wait to do it again!

Night before Thanksgiving

Had to go into work for a few last minute things and then spent the rest of my day prepping, baking and cooking. K did his fair share too. The outdoor kitchen, the patio and the garage all needed some cleaning out and the turkeys needed to be injected and seasoned.

The last thing I felt like doing was cooking dinner so K picked up some Gus's since the in laws have never had it. Considering there was 1 piece left out of 16, I'd say the newbies and the ones use to it enjoyed. J had 2 plates and a snack!

Well I'm off to the gym to counteract what's going down later on today. Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Meeting Jason Motte

Even though Melanie's phone rang and rang and rang during Jason's speech about how cancer has affected him and his family and what the Wings Foundation means to him, he was still a super cool down to earth kinda guy and his bad ass sports life hasn't gotten to his head. We loved getting to talk with him for a little while!

Strike Out Cancer w/ Jason Motte

Mel and I had a date Saturday night to go to Jason Motte's Strike Out Cancer fundraiser. Drinks, appys, sports memorabilia auctions and hanging with The St. Louis Cardinals closer made for a fun night. I bid on a Jason Motte autographed baseball, Ryan Theriot autographed baseball and a Les Miles autographed helmet and waiting to hear back if I won them. After that, we grabbed some sushi at Sekisui and called it a night.

Sunday included church, children's ministries, lunch with Heather at El Nopal and some football time on the couch.
K got home from his hunting trip with Trent later that afternoon, we watched more football, ordered pizza, watched Safe House and called it a day.

Low key weekend start

J and I had a few things to do last night and then got home in time for some chili pie and a Duck Dynasty marathon. We made it an early night since we had an early start today. J raked leaves with his youth group for some of the elderly members of the church and I hit the gym and the tire shop. After that, he went to his dad's and I'm hanging out watching the Tigers play. GEAUX!

1st fire in the new home

This should have been published thursday but it just sat in my drafts folder......
We've had a few nights so far this season that were perfect for the fireplace but since we didn't know how much it was previously used or when it was last cleaned, we weren't comfortable with lighting it but yesterday some guys came out and cleaned it! I couldn't wait for K to get the fire started.
He did that while I cooked a pot of chili and our first fire at the new place was on the books.
Margo loved it as much as we did! And I loved my light screen on the iPad so I could turn out the lights and still be able to read :)

Thanksgiving plans and the best chicken ever

Thanksgiving will be at our house this year!!!! It's the first time ever for me to host the dinner and I'm excited :) Sissy, Tay and I got together yesterday to figure out our menu. We aren't hogs or anything I promise.

Other accomplishments yesterday included the best chicken I have ever had in my life besides fried chicken. I found the idea on Pinterest and then personalized it a little.

First I stuffed a whole chicken with tons of garlic and rubbed his outside down with olive oil and rotisserie seasoning. After that easy prep, I sliced a huge opinion and covered the bottom of my crockpot and laid chicken little to rest on top, put the lid on and let him cook all day on low.
He made his own gravy while cooking and fell apart when I took him out.

I fried some potatoes & onions, mashed up some acorn squash and roasted green beans & brussel sprouts to serve next to him. It really was out of this world delicious chicken. I guess the guys agreed because there wasn't enough of him left to pack for my lunch today :(

Veteran's Day & Thanksgiving decos

The fam decided we would have Thanksgiving dinner at our new house this year and the Cajun parents are going to come up also so I took yesterday's holiday to get some decorating done. I scored big time at Hobby Lobby with 80% off deals on autumn decos.

Lazy Sunday

I tried to out sleep Taco yesterday and Kennon tried to out sleep me. What I'm saying is there was lots of couch and recliner time thrown in with a little bit of reading and watching football. The only thing that really got us away from this was picking up Jake and grabbing some dinner at Vinegar Jim's.
