New found wildlife @ the house

We have had some new creatures join us at the house. About a dozen blue wing teals & a kildee with her eggs showed up last weekend & we loved having them!

Cancelled baseball = party

We had another baseball tournament scheduled for the weekend of March 23 but thanks to wet and cold weather, it was cancelled. Jessica's birthday is March 25 so we were able to throw a birthday party for her at the house since we weren't at the ball fields.

Back from LA

There was no time to relax after returning home from vacation. We had to jump straight into a baseball tournament in West Memphis. I won't even mention how the boys did but I can tell you it wasn't good.

Spring Break 2013 - Day 5

Family time at Vermilionville, touring the swamp, watching for gators and eating some of the best crawfish ever at Hawk's Restaurant is what we did with our 5th day of spring break.

And just like that, all good things must end, Day 6 was spent on the road back home.

Spring Break 2013 - Day 4

We made the most of our last morning in NOLA by hitting the Beignet Cafe again, doing some last minute shopping and getting the required picture made in front of St. Louis Cathedral.

We rolled out of town and headed west towards Baton Rouge around lunch. We stopped in Gonzales at Cabella's and then made it to BR in time to visit Mike the Tiger & grab dinner at TJ Ribbs before the LSU v. Nichols baseball game at Alex Box Stadium. It was our first time there and we weren't disappointed. It was a great game that the Tigers wound up winning & the facility was beautiful. I'd love to be able to watch J play there sometime!!

After the game, we went to Opelousas & had some time to visit Dale & Betty before bed.

Spring Break 2013 - Day 3

Day 3 was full of ferry rides, shopping, beads, bull rides, trampolines, lunch at The Gumbo Pot, street bands, museums, a haunted history tour, dinner at Chartres House, and showing the kids what happens on Bourbon Street at night! It was a really long and fun day while poor K was stuck in meetings from early morning until about 10:00pm :(

Spring Break 2013 - Day 2

K had to leave for his conference early Monday morning so J & I went ahead and started our day shortly after he was gone. We made our way all over the French Quarter even though it was storming pretty bad. St. Louis Cathedral was still as beautiful as ever sun or no sun. In addition to exploring miles of New Orleans, we also did some shopping & had lunch at Bubba Gumps while we waited on e Maxwells to get to town.

They got there shortly after lunch and we took a streetcar ride to the Garden District.

Later that evening, after K got out of his conference, we got the kids settled at the hotel and hit the town with Jess & Judson. We started with drinks at a dive on Chartres, had dinner at SoBou & then made our way to Bourbon for Hand Grenades, Hurricanes and a lot of fun.

Spring Break 2013 - Day 1

K, J & I made it to New Orleans by late Sunday afternoon, got checked into our hotel (The JW Marriott on Canal), and started exploring on foot. After a couple of hours we needed dinner and made our way to the Acme Oyster House to find a line out the door and down the street so we went over to the Bourbon House New Orleans where the food was just as good and a 75% less wait. K & J had seafood platters and I got happy with a wedge salad & some NOLA style BBQ shrimp. After our bellies were full, we called it a night & headed back to the hotel to watch The Walking Dead only to find out AMC didn't work in our room so it was pretty much straight to bed after that.

NOLA > Illness

A sore throat, aches, sinus drain & congestion be damned! I'm not going to let sickness get in the way of a trip to New Orleans!!!! Even though this was my view for the past 2 days:

This is my view now, southbound I-55 to NOLA!
